Dental Bonding

Posted on 9/5/2022 by Jonathan J. Golab, DDS, PA
Dental BondingDental bonding might sound like it is a special time for you to bond with your dentist, but thankfully it isn't. I mean, that would just be weird, right? My dentist is probably one of those weird guys who likes to go to dental museums and look at all the archaic-looking tools of the trade. No thanks. Those things always look like torture devices. Now, if you feel like you need bonding time with your dentist, go for it.

Thus, dental bonding has nothing to do with actually bonding with your dentist. Probably a relief, right? Instead, it is a procedure that is widely unknown and yet, one of the most commonly performed. Seems strange, doesn't it?

What is Dental Bonding

Dental bonding has been around for several decades, but most people don't know about it. It is entirely non-invasive and can be completed in less than fifteen minutes. There isn't even a need for sedation. For people who have had to suffer through long oral surgeries, it might sound like magic, but it isn't. It is simply a malleable resin that can be heated and then shaped, as it cools, to correct a variety of different oral cavity conditions. Once in place, it can be polished so it appears like natural tooth enamel.

It can be used to replace missing sections of a chipped tooth and minimize gaps between teeth. It can also be used to cover discolored areas of tooth enamel. When cavities are too large, or in hard-to-reach areas of the mouth, dental bonding is relied upon to fill them.

In Conclusion

Whether or not you need bonding time with your dentist, shouldn't take away from the fact that dental bonding is an inexpensive procedure that yields great results. The fact it is inexpensive and noninvasive are just added bonuses. Why not find out more from your dentist? Also, maybe give him or her a hug. Hey, everybody can use a little bonding every now and then, right?
